The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

August 18, 2008

Two Weeks

It's been two weeks since we arrived home and our baby girl turned 11 months old today in Russia.

It took a full week to get over the jet lag. I wasn't all that tired, but I definately had my days and nights mixed up. (More so than usual for me.) And mornings were dreadful. Even the boys have slept in way later than normal for the past two weeks, but that probably has more to do with the fact that we've been watching the Olympics so late each night. We have really been enjoying it too!

Our agency gave us a list of paperwork that was expiring and must be renewed before Trip Two. The really nice thing about that is our home study agency gathered everything for us. Our SW would have even had the documents notarized, certified and appostilled for us as well. The only downside is that the agency is located in a county that charges $7.00 per document to certify them. Our county will certify the documents for FREE when it is adoption related. We decided to save the extra $150 dollars it was going to cost and asked our SW to send the documents to us. Martin took them to the county clerk today and I'll take them to be appostilled tomorrow. Our medicals will need to be updated too, but since they expire in 90 days, we'll wait until we get closer to a court date.

The other night we had two parents, four kids, a cat and a dog all stretched out in our queen-size bed watching the Olympics. It was very cramped with knees and elbows everywhere. I was thinking about how if Martin and I had known we were going to have so many children when we bought our bedroom furniture, we would have gone for the California King. You know, hind sight is 20/20. But Nolan, who has been waiting for a little sister every since Liam was born, pointed to tiny little spot on the bed and said "Look, mom, there is one place left for our little girl!" All the boys agreed. It was very sweet!

Please pray with us that it WILL NOT take another three months to get a court date!!!

I hope you get back to your DD very soon! Praying for a quick court date! I know that waiting in between has to be the worst.....worse than waiting for a referral, which is where we are right now.
God speed trip 2,
Angie

Hi Kim,
I just found your blog thru Carrie's Big Happy Family. We returned with our dear daughter from Novo in January, and reading your blog sure brought back the memories. Waiting between the 2 trips was miserable--we had a 4 month wait due to the holidays!! Hopefully your wait will be quick, but I know how hard it is. Can't wait to see pictures of the little tsarina. Good luck,
Jody

Hang in there Kim - you know they are taking good care of her. That is what I kept telling myself while waiting on Sam.

That's great that your county will apostille docs for free!! We'll be praying that little spot on your bed will be filled soon.

I'm so excited for that space to be filled at last!

Whoa - my county charges $7 for a certification? Holy! Here's a strange question - what is a certification? In CT, all we did was send the notarized document to the state for an apostille. :)

Praying for trip 2!
