The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

November 13, 2008

I'm leaving on a jet plane...

...and I know what day I'll be back again.

The only problem is that I don't know what day I'm leaving. Therefore, I cannot buy plane tickets yet. Do we leave on the 27th (a.k.a. Thanksgiving day) or the 29th? Oh, please let it be the 29th!

Like most regions in Russia, Kemerovo is now requiring the 8 Doctor Medical Exam. For those of you not familiar with Russian adoptions, that means we must see 8 Russian doctors who must all sign off in regards to our health. Apparently it can either be done in Moscow or in the region. There are offices in Moscow that exist specifically for this purpose: you go and see all 8 specialists in one day, you pay, then they sign the forms and you're good to go. If ours will be done in Moscow, we need to leave on the 27th. If we can have it done in the region, we'll leave on the 29th.

In any event, we are scheduled to arrive home on Dec. 10th. WoooHooo!

kim, what agency are you with? we have to do our physicals in moscow. i also am having flight dilema over when i should schedule to leave kemerovo. it could be the 17th or the 20th? i'm trying to get an opinion from our agency on the liklihood of leaving on the 17th. if we stay until the 20th...what the heck is their to do in kemerovo for 6 days? being couped up in a hotel room with a 2 year old for that long could definately be challenging! hopefully we will both get our flight situations figured out. :)

Hopefully it will work out where you can leave later and still return on the 10th. Then, you'd be home for both holidays. Yippee.

You are getting closer. How exciting! Good luck with the medical exams. Yekaterinburg requires that adoptive couples do those in the USA. Try getting 8 different US specialists to see you, no less sign off on the same paper and have it notarized. What a mess that was this summer. Keep us posted!
