The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

Happy New Year!

I'm looking forward to seeing what 2010
has in store for us!

We had a nice quiet family dinner at home and then spent the rest of the evening playing games and just hanging out with each other. We always watch the ball drop in New York and yell Happy New Year while toasting our sparkling grape juice and popping confetti. That was as far as Lexi and I made it this year, but Martin and the boys all stayed up until the guitar dropped in Nashvegas!

Confetti on the head seems to have become somewhat of a tradition at our house:

What a difference a year makes in the life of a child! Lexi has grown in so many ways this year. She is no longer the tiny baby that came into our lives last Christmas, unable to walk or talk and hesitant to even cry. Today she has a vibrant personality, is full of smiles, hugs and kisses, and is probably the loudest child in our home. She is determined, sweet, funny and has finally discovered baby dolls, hair bows, and playing dress-up -- although she would still rather play cars or football with her brothers. She climbs, runs, flips, and talks up a storm even if we don't always understand her. If you don't acknowledge her when she is talking she will get louder and louder until she has your full attention. She does NOT like being told no, would rather eat chocolate all day, everyday, and had a major melt-down this morning because there were no more presents to unwrap. But then again, she is all two!

A year later, she will now ask to be my baby when she wants to be held and rocked in my arms. This only started a few months ago. Before that, she would allow me to rock her occasionally (usually she was too busy), but she seemed uncomfortable and unable to fully relax. Now, she loves it and asks for more. She is very good at taking turns and keeping everyone in their place. She can be a bit bossy. Her transition into our family was seamless. Looking back, I can see the progress she has made, the troubles we had (and have) and the adjustments we all needed to make, but each moment in time felt normal, not like we were trying to overcome something. I prepared for the worst possible scenario and was blessed with the best. I am certain that in 2010, Lexi will continue to blossom with all the love showered upon her by Martin and me and all her big brothers. 2009 was a year of many changes for our family. It had its ups and downs, but overall, I'll chalk it up as being a very good year. I can't wait to see what 2010 will bring.

I still cannot belive the change in her in one year!

And I love that you are able to celebrate it an hour earlier. I don't get to do that since we live in ET zone!
