The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

September 2, 2007

Meet us at the fair!

Jeff Foxworthy could get a lot of new material by watching our family at the Robertson County Fair. Here are a few of his famous idioms:

You might be a redneck if you spend $50 enlarging photos to 8x10 so you can win $10 in the photo contest!

...if the prize money your kids earn for crafts, art exhibits, and baking total more than 6 month's worth of chores!

...if they turn around and spend their winnings racing each other (and dad) at the remote control NASCAR game about 50 times in a row! (and the fair roadie remembers you from last year. scary)

...if your 3, 5, 7, and 9 year old boys are competing against a room full of little old ladies in the baking contest!

...if one of the highlights of the week is throwing ping-pong balls into fish bowls to win a goldfish swimming in an orange food-coloring filled bag and then that fish proceeds to go on rides with you!

...if your 3 year-old begs to ride the "Alpine" for the 5th time in a row! (For anyone not familiar with the Alpine, it's like a bobsled ride that goes around, up and down, forward and backward, really, really fast, while blaring extremely loud country music. I still have this song stuck in my head: "There's a tear in my beer, 'cus I'm crying that you're not here ..." or something like that :0))

...if you ride the "Sizzler" with your five year son just so you can tease him with kisses while he is squished up against you and can't get away!

...if your favorite carnival games are the ones that say "Kids win everytime!"

...if you sing a bit off-key and play air-guitar in the 4-H talent show and still take 1st and 3rd places!

...if your kids cry when you have to leave without seeing the Saturday Night Demolition Derby because the stands are too full to find a seat!

Oh, I could keep going on and on, but I'll spare you. In case you can't tell, we sure had fun last week! The fair itself is really pretty small and all the same rides and games are located in the same place each year. However, (in case anyone from the Fair Board is reading this), I was impressed that everything was very clean and the events all ran smoothly. Something tells me my boys may not always want to spend so much time with me doing arts and crafts, baking cookies and cakes, or even spending quality time with Martin and me at the fair. So, before they grow into teenagers and it's not cool to be seen with mom and dad, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy myself while it lasts.

If I can figure out how to make the talent show video files small enough for uploading to youtube, I'll add them to the video bar. In the meantime, here are a few photos.

A special thanks goes to my Mom (a.k.a. Nana) for all her help with the boys' fair exhibits last week. We couldn't have done it without you!

We have totally got to learn to go to the Fair! I can't believe that there's a demolition derby! I was just telling Abbey yesterday that I have always wanted to go to one of those!

I'm turning in to a Robertson Countian aren't I?
