Sending You a Little Christmas Wrapped Up in Love

As I was driving to church last night, a song came on the radio that really touched me. It was Jim Brickman's #1 Christmas song "Sending You a Little Christmas" and it was probably written for all our brave soldiers currently serving overseas and the families back home missing them. But last night it made me think about our little girl, somewhere on the other side of the world, that we are waiting for and praying for until she comes home to us. When we started the adoption process last Spring, I was optimistic that we might have her home by this Christmas. I wish we could have at least met her already so that I really could send her some of her favorite things to let her know how much we love her and can't wait until she is home in our arms.

Christmas at our house is full of traditions, both silly and serious. We go all out on the decorations and lights; in December we count down the days by reading the true meaning of Christmas from our Bibles before letting the boys open a window of their Advent Calendars to find a little piece of chocolate; we play Secret Santa by drawing names of just our immediate family so the boys can enjoy the gift of giving; we decorate cookies and bake lots of other goodies; we watch all the classic Christmas programs snuggled up together with popcorn and hot chocolate, including my favorite "It's a Wonderful Life"; our Church always has the sweetest children's Christmas pageant; and then there are all the festive gatherings with our friends and family. Christmas Eve and morning are nothing short of magical and a little crazy, as you can imagine. So, it just makes me a little sad knowing that she won't get to experience all that with us this year.

We'll be ready for her to celebrate with us next year. I have already started searching for the perfect stocking to be stitched with her name, there is a white and pink Christmas tree already twinkling in her room and an angel costume hanging in her closet. She has a special ornament waiting for her photo, her very own children's Bible, and story books with Russian Christmas fairy tales like "Babushka", the "Snow Maiden" and "Grandfather Frost" to go along with all the boys' favorite Christmas stories. But most of all, she has a mom and dad, four big brothers, two grandmothers, a grown-up big sister and brother-in-law, one niece, six sets of aunts and uncles, and twelve cousins who are ready for her to be home where she belongs so we can wrap her up in LOVE!
