A mother's "new" year resolutions

I recently read a column in the Nashville Parent magazine that I could really relate to. The author said she always starts the new year by writing a list of ambitious resolutions that are harder to achieve than fitting into her pre-pregnancy jeans. This year she decided that she would have more success if she lowered her standards and modified the resolutions to more reasonable goals. Some of them I really liked and just copied ... others I have adapted for our own family's use. *Beware they are not very PC, but here goes:

Last year's resolution: The TV will remain off during school days. Quality family time will be spent reading, talking to each other, exploring the outdoors and doing arts and crafts.
This year's resolution: The TV will remain off every other Tuesday morning on even months beginning with the letter "J." We will spend quality time eating fast food out of Styrofoam containers and seeing who can make the fanciest design out of catsup with their fries.

Last year's resolution: I will create gourmet meals from scratch, seasoned with fresh herbs from my garden.
This year's resolution: I will use a spice other than salt.

Last year's resolution: I will improve my mind by joining a local book club so I can read and have lively discussions on current literature.
This year's resolution: I will refrain from staying up past 2:00 am reading the FRUA Chat Board and my favorite blogs.

Last year's resolution: I will take time to talk and actively listen to my children so I can learn about who they are and grow to respect them as individuals.
This year's resolution: I will not nod off when my sons tell me about the latest Nintendo DS game plots, what their Runescape characters are doing every two minutes, who their webkinz best friends are and what day each of their webkidz have a birthday, who won their latest Star Wars Forces of Corruption battle, and the funny thing that Sponge Bob just said -- even if my brain goes numb and my teeth fall asleep.

Last year's resolution: I will strive to loss weight and be more organized like my friends with just one or two kids.
This year's resolution: I will make my friends with just one or two kids feel overweight, disorganized and inadequate by having them baby-sit all my children.

Last year's resolutions: I will make my children's Halloween costumes, make sure all their clothes are clean and neatly folded or hung in their closets, and get them to all their lessons, practices, and activities on time.
This year's resolutions: I will buy 100 pairs of socks exactly alike to make it easier for the boys' to find a match in the clean clothes basket ensuring that we get out the door that much faster.

Last year's resolutions: I will let my children know how much I love them.
This year's resolutions: I will let my children know how much I love them.

Finally, some resolutions I can keep!
