The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

You just might be...

I've often wondered how I could feel like such good friends with people in the adoption community that I have never met in real life. We seem to have a common thread. We encourage each other, laugh at each other's stories, oooh and aaah over each other's photos, share bible verses and prayer for each other, and just overall cheer each other on. I am truly thankful for time spent waiting for our referral because without it, I would have missed out on so many virtual friendships. But, I didn't really know HOW MUCH we all have in common until last week.

There was a fun thread on FRUA last week for Pre-Adoptive Parents ("PAP"). In was in the style of Jeff Foxworthy and called "If you [fill in the blank], then you just might be a PAP!" Only no southern accent required for this one.

There were so many funny responses, but a few of them really ring true with me. In fact it was hard to narrow them down. So in case anyone is wondering what has been going on with us lately -- other than waiting for THE CALL -- just take a look:

  • If your heart skips a beat every time you see a new e-mail from your agency, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you hate Friday afternoons (no news coming over the weekend) and love Mondays, THEN YOU MIGHT JUST BE A PAP! [Pitiful, but too true.]

  • If your ears perk up every time there is mention of discord between Russia and the US in the news because you're afraid there will be a slowdown in adoptions, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP.

  • If you have to write a lengthy e-mail to your boss explaining the reasoning behind "the two or possibly three trips to Russia" scenarios so he will be able to understand just what in the heck it is you are talking about... THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you have a pile of "clearance rack" clothes in your basement for a child whose age you don't even know yet, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Especially after TN's tax-free weekend!]

  • If you refuse to use your vacation until the very end of the year, just in case you get the call, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Okay, I gave in a little on this one.]

  • If Apostille is starting to sound like a great name for your child, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If your nightly entertainment consists of Frua, Blogs, and YouTube videos, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you continuously look at usynovite.ru, wondering which child could be yours, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Ouch!]

  • If you chat with your FRUA and blogging friends more often than you do your bridesmaids from your wedding, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you can quote the price of airfare to Moscow on more than one airline without looking at a computer, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [This would be Martin's department!]

  • If you have changed the wording of “if we get our girl” to “when we get our daughter”, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Oh, Yeah!]

  • If your son points to the little girl on the front of the baby product catalog and asks, "Is that my little sister?", THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you have a snowsuit ready in June or July so you can take your baby out of the darn orphanage, sweating all the while, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Seriously, we do!]

  • If you have a bottom drawer packed full with travel sized items for trips to Russia, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP! [Along with various travel size toys, bubbles and books!]

  • If the notary in the bank knows you by name, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you pet the girlie dresses in the department store, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If the background on your computer at home is a photo of a remote region in Russia where your dossier was sent, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP.

  • If you have answered "no news yet" or "we're still waiting" more than ten times in one day, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you find yourself praying morning, noon & night for a little person on the other side of the world, whom you have never met and know nothing about, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

  • If you blog about really trivial stuff, THEN YOU JUST MIGHT BE A PAP!

Good to know I'm not the only one doing these things!!!

I have to say yes to just about everything you posted. I have been coming out of Kohls looking like one of Santa's little helpers with a sack or two filled with clothes. I clothes that range from 9 months to 4T. Mostly boys stuff so you just now I will get a girl.

Very funny post.
