The Abraham Family’s Journey to Russia to Bring Home Their Daughter

October 7, 2008

The paper chase continues...

We received the go ahead from our agency to get our medicals updated [for those outside the adoption world: medicals expire every three months] and to update anything in our dossier that has expired. We have been waiting to redo our medicals in an attempt to time it just right so this will be the last update. Of course, our agency doesn't know exactly when we will hear about a court date, but I'm hoping this is a good sign it is coming soon.

Thankfully, only a few documents are expiring since the bulk of our dossier is valid for a year and we finalized it on February 1, 2008. Plus, we already updated a few items in August. However, every piece of new paper we do have to gather will need to be notarized, certified and appostilled. Four times. Again. I have a friend at work who is a notary and has graciously helped us out. I gave her a Star Bucks gift card the for the first round of paperwork back in January and then the second round of paperwork right after we got back from Russia. Any suggestions for something new and different to thank her for this next and hopefully last round of notary seals?

I really hope this means we are on track for a November court date. As much as I enjoy Thanksgiving with our big family, I would be very *thankful* to be in Novokuznetsk finalizing our adoption. Now, if we could get her home before Thanksgiving so everyone could met her, that would be icing on the Thanksgiving cake!

Let this be the last of the paperwork!!! We got the lady who did all of our notarys a Christmas ornament from Russia. Actually, we got one for those that wrote us recommendation letters as well (of course, I still need to send them!). My fingers are crossed for a November court date!!

This is good good news! I get so excited when I see you have a new post, hoping for that MUCH anticipated phone call post. Hopefully you will get court dates for November. Fingers crossed for you.

I check on you about 10 times a day. I would totally take this as a good sign. I am with B & K - I think a Christmas ornament would be great. Really I think anything from Russia is good. Can't wait to hear good news. Call if you need me - I have misplaced your number.

Whoo hoo (confetti) - thanks be to God for His good timing.

How about getting the girl at work a beenie baby seal? Her first name could be notary! hahaha

Or, tickets to the zoo to see the seals if you've got them in Nashville. That'd be fun.

Or a nice set of glitter pens - I LOVE glitter pens .. or even a nice pen for her purse to keep with her notary seal.

You are in our hearts and prayers

We were in Volgograd for Thanksgiving during Noah's adoption! It was weird but the translators knew it was a big day in America and bought us candy bars. :-)

How about something Russian for your friend?

Good luck with the updates!
